Zero Stigma Day
Zero Stigma Day is a grassroots awareness campaign that mobilises and unites people, organisations, and entire countries across the world to take action against HIV stigma. The campaign was conceived by our Co-Founder Dr Vanessa Apea, as Medical Director of Naz in conversation with their team. The year-round campaign is marked by the day of action on 21st July.
We were delighted both of our Co-Founders Susan Cole and Dr Vanessa Apea spoke at the Zero Stigma Day event, hosted by Edelman in their London office. Vanessa delivered a passionate remote address highlighting the devastating impact of stigma on the lives of people with HIV, and actions needed by individuals, community and global policy to end stigma.
Susan joined Marc Thompson, Lead Commissioner of the London HIV Prevention Programme, for an inspiring fire side chat, with Edelamn’s Davide Scalenghe, highlighting the importance of community leadership and storytelling in the HIV response, and tackling the health inequities holding back progress for all.
The event featured a moving performance by Joyful Noise, the UK’s choir of people with HIV, and the premier of the powerful short film ‘Love Ends Stigma’ featuring people with HIV in conversation with their loved ones.
